Mr. Sky Classic 2014 – Mr. Chennai

Mr. Chennai  bodybuilding championship titled “Mr. Sky Classic 2014” was held at Corporation community centre in Nungambakkam  on January 26.

The event was organised by S. Saravanan and S. Rajesh of Sky Fitness Centre, and under the aegis of Chennai District Amateur Body Building Associations (affiliated to International Federation of Body Building and Fitness founded by Joe Weider in 1946).

M. Arasu, secretary, Tamil Nadu Amateur Bodybuilding Association, ‘Royapuram’ Mano, chairman, Chennai District Amateur Body Building Association (CDABBA),  Sky Babu, president,  CDABBA, T.K. Gurunathan, general secretary,  CDABBA, M. MohanKumar, treasurer ,  CDABBA, were present.

Highlight

The contest was made special by giving a chance to veterans to flex their muscles in ‘Masters’ category in ‘Over 40’ and ‘ Over 50’ age divisions.

Around 15 competitors participated in these classes proving once again that they are ageless.

7 weight categories

Over 100 competitors participated in the regular contest which was held in seven different weight categories – 55 kg to ‘Over 80’ kg.

A cash prize of Rs. 2,500 was given to the first prize winner in each weight class, Rs. 1,500 to second prize winner, Rs.  1,000 to third prize winner, and Rs. 500 each to fourth and fifth prize winners.

The winners of each weight category finally fought for the over title, ‘Champion of Champions.’

T. Gopi representing Jai Fitness won the overall title and took home a refrigerator as gift.  The improvements he has made in his physique are mind-blowing. His overall muscle size, round delts, arms, back, legs and conditioning are freaky. From being a ‘good bodybuilder,’ Gopi has now grown into a ‘great bodybuilder’ who can win medals for Tamil Nadu in national-level competitions.

Rajasekar, who won in 60 kg class, was the most ripped competitor in the entire contest. His physique was beautiful. With a little more mass, he is sure to go to the next level.

Vinoth Kumar, who won the 70-kg class, was full, thick and cut. He had round muscles and was in great shape too. He looked big and dominating in his category.

Special mention:

M. Mahendran, who won the +80 kg class has finally arrived to take his rightful place in bigger contests. He was in top shape, ripped and dry. With a little more muscle on the frame, he is sure to win the State title.
